anybody got a good load or 2 for the .243-06 or the 6.5-284 ? prefer something for ramshot powders but will try other powders also.

mark,i'm useing 55 gr of h1000 behind 85 sierra's now, haven't chrono'd them yet. just got the rifle used. an old bench rest with an enfield action, new hart heavy barrel

I got 1600 rounds out of my first tube.

I talked to sierra on the phone the other day about the 6.5-284. They suggested using their load data for the 6.5-06 and their 140 gr bullets. Drop it by 1 full gr for a starting load. And be sure to use federal 210 primers as many others are just too hot for the case. Seems a hotter primer will burn even the slowest burning powder too fast. The "efficient" case design aids in this procees by holding the powder longer in the case. I personaly experienced the pressure spikes in my rifle with what the barnes book showed a minimum loads.

I started with 48g of AA4350 and am working my way up to 53 grains. The problem is I always get .5" groups so I don't know why I should go higher. .5 groups so far at 48,49,50,51 grains. Of course that is with 120-125 grain bullets (any of them).

I think that you could use 240WBY load information. The 6mm-06, 243-06, are nothing more or less than the 240WBY less the belt and radious sholder. The 284 also has very simular capasity to the -06 and load data could be used, but start low and work up.

Elliot while I've not personally worked with a 240 Wby friends of mine that use them just can not simply keep up with the 6/06's that I load for. For that matter neither can my friends using 6/284's.

I would love to get a WBY Ultra Light in 240 for this spring bear season though-be kind of fun to play with. Oh now what have you done to me-got me thinking and that is a scarry thing. It would best my 6/06 by almost 3 pounds I bet.
