I recently bought my first AR-15 chambered for the .223/ 5.56. I also bought a Redding full length .223 two die set. Everything was going smooth until it came time to seat the bullets. Using the seating die and trying to seat the 50gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips I could not crank the seating stem down far enough so the bullets would clear the AR's magazine. In other word I ran out of adjustment before I reached my O.A.L. of 2.230" I had to get my .222 dies out to seat the bullets so they would run through the magazine ok. Have any of you guys had this happen with Redding dies? Oh and another thing I ran the die down until it just touched the mouth of the case and backed it up a hair so the die was down as far as it could go without crimping and the brass was trimmed to 1.750". Sounds like the bullet seating stem is too short.
Call them and let them know how to check if that is the problem?

i has similar problem with redding they told me i did not know what i waa doing

Has the seating stem got a washer?

If so remove the washer and screw it deeper.

I have that problem with several dies.

I just remove the washer.

Yes, do that. You don't need the lock washer.

The Ballistic Tip has a very sharp ogive, so the annular ring of the seating stem contacts it further down the bullet toward the full-diameter shank. Thus, this bullet seats shallower with the same setting than would a blunter bullet. The solution is as described. But using your .222 seating die works just fine, too, so I wouldn't spend any money on rectifying the situation.

Yeah, I've taken the lock ring off of the stem and screwed the stem all the way down until it bottoms out and it still doesn't seat the bullet deep enough to load the round in the AR's magazine. I asked here thinking maybe this is an isolated case or if it's a problem Redding should be addressing. Thanks for your views on this issue. BCM

Butchloc and I have had some of the same experience with Redding.
they tried to convince me .006 was except able for run out on a custom 40* FL die.
I have had to take the locking ring off a couple older dies to get the seater to seat deep enough. I also made some thinner locking rings on a surface grinder.

I gave up dealing with Redding for the reaction of the staff...I have two JP Sauer's, a 30-06 and a 8x57, and one 6.5 Mannlicher Schonauer, these old guns have tight benchrest chambers and I was having problems..Called RCBS, guy said send them
to me with 3 fired cases for each, and we will fix them.Got them back with full explanation and all went well and no charge even though it was the guns fault not the dies...Its always been that way with RCBS.
