I may have asked this question before?
I'm looking for a powder that meters well for my .45acp. Now that components are less difficult to find I may actually be able to find some of the powders reccomended on the shelf at my reloading shop. I've used Red Dot and 800X which function wise I've been very pleased with but neither one meters worth a crap. I can use what I have left of those powders in my 12Ga shells so I'm not losing anything but I would really like a powder that will throw consistant charges so I don't have to scale every one to make sure I'm not getting 1/2 grain variation. When we're talking a 5.1 grain load .5 grain is pretty significant.

I use Bullseye, 5.1 grs 230gr round ball.
I have an old lyman #55 powder measure and using it takes some practice throwin charges.
You also need to set it up where you are not bumping it or jaring it.
A soft stroke down and up and a couple knocks with the knocker. weigh every charge till you get the feel then ever tenth or so from then on.
also the volume in the powder column is important. try to maintain about 2/3 full . refill regulary. my loads very (+-) .1

Winchester W231 works well if you can find some.

VihtaVuori N320 or N340. Both meter very well for me.

If fine flake powders like Red Dot won't meter consistently, it is the fault of your meter, not the powder. Try a Redding. Mine throws those powders very consistently.

I go with Bullseye or 231 for the win. I use to use Unique until I found BE.

What type of loads?
I find PowerPistol to flow like water in my Lyman #55 and Quick measures. It`s a great powder for general purpose but needs to run a bit warm for plinking loads if you don`t like soot.

Everything I load for the .45ACP is loaded for General Purpose/Self Defense. I can't quite see the point of loading a round I wouldn't trust my life to.

All right I got some Hodgdon HP-38 which is identical to W231. Now I've got to go find a load to go with my 185gn LSWC bullets and I'll try it out.

Well the HP-38 metered much better than the others I've tried but there was some slight variation and the feel of the powder measure varies from throw to throw. I think it's time to spend a little money on a better one I saw the Hornady lock and load powder measure for $60.99 at midway.
