ASS_CLOWNCDH,
That is sound saying to live by, IMHO.
Regarding the load in the 300 Winnie.
Per the 47th Edition of Lyman's reloading manual:
300 Winchester Magnum - Winchester brand
150 grain Hornady soft point
Win LR primer (maybe that is where I screwed up

)
65 grains of IMR4895 (H4895 is practically identical and I did use both) This is a
MAX load. Muzzle velocity - 3115 fps (24" barrel)
IMR reloading manual (recently off of website)
300 Win mag - Remington brand case
Remington 91/2 LRM Primers (this really could be my mistake

)
64 grains of IMR4895 (
MAX LOAD )
muzzle velocity - 3240 fps
24" barrel.
Hornady NO data (probably because they KNOW better!)
Here are my results in my 26" barrelled 300 Win mag M70 Classic Super grade.
Cases Remington (avg case volume 92.0 gr of water 20 cases)
Primers - CCI200, CCI250, Fed 215
Powders H4895 / IMR4895
Charge weight 65 grains (saw no difference in ballistics between any of the primers or either powder)

3167

Feel free to do the math on those loads. Lyman's manual was a great deal closer to reality than IMR, but it took two extra inches in my rifle's barrel to get there. Funny they did not mention the hang fire incidence, or a filler. Perhaps it really is an issue with my use of CCI and Federal primers. Perhaps if I used the Olin (Winchester) or Remington primers the hangfires would have been eliminated.
Here are some rounds fire off with the same brass, same bullets, same primers, but with 80 grains of IMR4350:
150 grain Remington Corelokt
Muzzle velocity:
3573
3570
3575
3573
3564
3563
3561
3564
3569

This is a very accurate load in my rifle, consisently better than MOA (typically better than 3/4 MOA). I consider it a maximum load as it only gets less accurate above or below. It still isn't as good as the 200 gr Sierra Gamekings though.
Use of these loads is at your own risk! I STRONGLY recommend that YOU DO NOT use the IMR4895 / H4895 loads as I experienced hangfires with them. The IMR4350 load should be reduced AT LEAST 10% and slowly worked up to! ASS_CLOWN

ASS_CLOWNThe recipe has been given. 10 years, my my but you are an old dog at this reloading game. Good grief!
Ray,
I don't NORMALLY shoot hangfires. I just decided that I would get rid of the cartridges I had loaded up.
Replies like these, from these learned gentlemen, that is what posting at old Accurate Reloading is all about!

PerforatorI've been reloading for about 10 years and currently load 23 calibers. I'm really pissed off that I've missed out on all the hang-fires and the ensuing excitement following said event. My hair stands up just thinking about it. Someone please tell me how to go about duplicating Ass Cracks umm sorry, Clowns hang-fire loads!

phurleyI have been shooting a .300 Win mag for over thirty years normaly with full house loads. I have downloaded it to 30-06 levels for years for son and grandson and have never had a hangfire. They now shoot the full house loads however with more grandsons coming on I will continue to download when needed. In my opinion the .300 Win mag is one of the most versital chamberings out there because of this. I will admit there are some nuts out there who might get in trouble, but I have seen some of them get in trouble with normal loads, so what is new. ----- Done carefully with research and caution downloading of a Magnum is not hard. For non magnum shooters the fear of the unknown may weigh heavy on their opinions.

good shooting.
