Why the differance?

Two rifles shooting a 25 yard group of 10 shots through the same hole. Move to 100 yards and one shoots the same group, 10 through the same hole. The other shoots 1.5 inches.

Tailgunner25yd groups don't mean anything unless the barrel is less than 8" long and your holding it with 1 hand behind your back.
100yd groups don't mean much unless your working with a 30-30 class "woods" rifle.

Blob,In order to give you a definitive answer it would become a rather extensive piece of literature. However, If you were hunting game that could bite back under 100yds. and one rifle is a.416 mag. and one is a .458 mag.and both used designer bullets at sufficient velocity your data indicates that either will do the job nicely, nicely.

No idea why, but at least you know which one to sell.

muffinI would say the cause is probably coming from the sights/scope, all other things being equal. Unless those 'same hole' groups are truly, exactly the same.........Nothing like distance to accentuate an issue..
