DocNecking down Lapua 30.06 brass
I bought some Lapua brass in 30.06 awhile back for 2 reasons. One, to neck it down for the 270, and also to see how it does in my .06.
The question I have about necking it down to 270 is the length of the brass.
Even after necking down and firing, the brass is still shorter than the trim-to-length standard for the 270. So, while I get to save a lot of time by not having to trim this brass, what are the negatives?
I'm I going to create a fouling ring in my 270 chambers? Will it be something to worry about?
Or is this really no big deal? Thanks

308SakoDoc it has been a very common practice for years to change '06 into .270, and some obvious other sizing jobs. I am confident that you or your rifle will likely never know the difference!
That my opinion.

DocThank you 308Sako. I just haven't shot enough rounds yet in any of the 270s to notice anything to be worried about. I didn't want to continue if the long term results may cause chamber problems or excessive fouling build up.

TheKiwiI use Lapua 3006 cases to make 6.5/06 Never seen anything detrimental and get great service out of the Lapua Brass.

There are none that I've ever found. I trim my new brass short and then usually only have to trim once more during its life.
