38+P Loads for a Ruger LCR
Anybody had much luck loading for a Ruger LCR? I'm still bouncing back and forth between using Titegroup or HP 38 with Hornady 158 gr XTP bullets. This particular revolver doesn't appear to care for 158 LSWC that much. I'm getting 7" groups at 50' with it, even though it's a snubbie I think I can do better.

Hey DOG,
Some people don’t like snubs, maybe that’s why you don’t have many takers here.

I wouldn’t give up on the 158hp in your snub nose rev try a different powder.
Unique, bullseye, 2400…

I get some nice groups from unique and 2400.
5.0 grains unique / F100 158 Grain HP
9.0 grains 2400 / F100 158 Grain HP

Here’s a link to a group I got with 110 grain hp and 5.9 grains of unique out of 38+ P brass in my 357 snub.

It's a 13.5 oz revolver, kind of a new design they have a polymer grip frame and a cam action trigger that lightens the pull up alot. It's the smoothest trigger I've ever felt out of a snubby from the factory by far. I've only tried 158 SWC lead in it so far and the accuracy wasn't great, I'm going to try the XTP's and see if there's an improvement.

Thanks for the info VinnyG that's a heck of a group of of a snubby Eeker

I would recommend that you try a box of factory loaded Speer Gold Dot 135 grain +P Hollow Points.

They are the 'state of the art' snub gun ammo.

If you're shooting 7" groups at 50' with them......... then that's the best you're going to get out of your gun.

Do you have other snubbies that give tighter groups?

I found my solution to tighter groups with my revolver...I open one eye! Big Grin

Buy some Remingotn Golden Saber .38 Spl +P ammo and, as suggested, some of the 135Gr Speer load, and the Cor-Bon 110 gr. 38 Spl load. It's standard pressure.

Any of them will do the job for you. See what you and your LCR like best, then buy some. Then load 125 gr bullets to about the same velocity and recoil level, so you can practice with less expen$ive ammo, and be used to your premium ammo when you use it. Have fun with your LCR Smiler

Can't say that I do, I've got a S+W Model 19 that shoots much tighter groups but it's got a 4" barrel and the hammer can be cocked to shoot in single action so it's not a fair comparison. I hope I'll have a snubbie that will shoot tighter groups soon, any type of luck at all and it will be this one rotflmo
