jrylb73220 Swift Reload ?
Ok this weekend I picked up soem different size bullets than I usually load. I went from a 50 Gr. Horany V-Max to a 55 Gr. V-Max. I am using H4895 Powder. The Horandy book says the max load is 34.8 grs and the chart on the powder says 37 grs. Does anyone have any suggestions for me.

Use the starting load in the book and work up. You could also contact Hornaday and see what they have to say about the discrepancy.

vapodogHodgdon lists 37 grains and 52,000 CUP.....and about 3700 fps.....personally I'd stop there if I got there.....but as it the case.....work up about 1/3 rd grain per time.

jrylb73Well I called Hornady and they told me to start out at their max load of 34.8 grains. So I cut it back just a few and used 34.5 grains.

jstevensThere are better powders for the Swift than 4895. H414 or 4064 will go faster with the same pressure as will RL15. I can't see a reason to go slower with the same pressure with the .220, it is all about speed.

StoneybrokeI've been shooting the Swift for thirty years+. After I tried 4064, I stopped foolin.

HipsterDitto here with other powders for the 220 swift 4895 never gave the accuracy and pressure spiked way too quick while working up in 1/2 grain increases. H-414 or IMR 4064 with 40-50 grainers should get you in a happy place H4831 is a sleeper with 55 grainers if you have some on hand it is not the ultra fastest but for me was very very accurate before my barrel went on the picket line.
