Hi Burke,

Welcome to the forum. Ok, I'll bite. I prefer WW brass in most calibers because it is inexpensive, especially when bought in bulk. In some of the more unusual ones, I like Norma and BELL. And--yes, I must--FORD rules! [Roll Eyes]

In the calibers I can get it in, I prefer Lapua over anything else. And I just picked up more for my 6.5x55 for around $35/100 from Midway -- not bad when you consider I cull 15-18 per 100 when I buy Remington or Winchester in the same caliber.

With Lapua, the tolerances are tight, the neck/shoulder annealed, the primer flash holes DRILLED instead of punched....and on and on. And I have never discarded a Lapua case.

I prefer Fedreal brass for Handguns, with Remington a close second, and Remington for Rifle loads. Federal make really consistant brass but it is difficult to find with out buying loaded rounds, which I almost never do. [Smile]

I gotta agree that Ford rules and for the most part so does Winchester brass but if Lapua is made in what I need or if I can form from Lapua to what I need, thats the way I go.

Gentlemen,

PMP brass (South AFrican) is my favorite. It is heavy and lasts through a lot of loadings.

Lapua , RWS and Remington , depending on calibers and availability ! My Winchester 218 Bee cases to form 17 Ackley Bee have been pretty awful stuff !
Although my 375 Winchester cases are really good ?! I guess it depends on the caliber too !

Well I like Sako and Norma for the 222 but a lot of other stuff is harder to find or just plain too $$$....so Rem or WW gets the nod.

I use Starline for my pistol reloading; would use Federal if I could find it in bulk. WW for my 45-70 as it's thinner walls allow for more blackpowder volume.

Depend on caliber.

Winchester or Starline for all hangun calibers.

Lapua or Norma when this brand is availble for some calibers.

All the rest is good execpt Fiocchi and Bertram.

Just my opinion.

For my 6,5 x 55 I always use Lapua, from my experience the best in that caliber and inexpensive too. Norma has never impressed me (Iï¿½m Scandinavian, so patriotism doesnï¿½t colour my opinion on that) I have always heard, from shooters and the gun/reloading press that US cases are second best, but I have used Remington cases a lot for my .375 and 7mm RM, in my opinion they are as good as any other case. I have had no trouble using max. loads from reputable manuals or in getting good accuracy and case life. Never had to throw away any of them either. Anyone out there who have long term (many years) experience with Rem. cases?

The reason I started using them is that they are by far the most inexpensive ones even in scandinavia. Lapua doesnï¿½t make cases for interesting cartridges (in my opinion and with the exception of the wonderfull 6,5) and Norma is hideously expensive. I guess all the brand names are good enough for most aplications.

Another matter is that cases vary in capacity from one maker to the other. The scandinavian cases are often lighter than the others=more capacity. I use a Lee powder weight, so I cantï¿½t weigh my cases, does anybody know the weight/capacity of R-P cases in 7RM and .375 H & H compared to other brands?

RWS - even come ready chamfered! One exception their 9.3x62 brass is too thin necked.

W-W for the money. Rem is too soft. Lapua seems to be the fav of benchresters( haven't loaded Lapua myself) Chevy kicks but on( Found On Roadside Dead)

I like WW brass the best too.I only reload .357 .38spl and 9 mm but i've found that winchester is my favorite.

PMP is nice and very good but it's hard to find in Sweden for some reason. Horneber is also nice but expencive.

Remington, Wichester never seems to last soo long as the others.

I prefer Lapua in the calibers I can get it in. I also like Norma but it's dreadfully expensive. I use Remington and Federal but am wild about neither. I like the European idea of drilling the flash-hole instead of punching it out. Save a lot of time by not having to ream them out on the inside. I started using Lapua in my 6.5x55 then it spread to most of my rifle calibers. It's good stuff. Best wishes.

I like RWS, Norma and Winchester. Lapua would most likely be on my list also if they made it for one of the cartridges I shoot, but they don't. Guess I'll just have to go out a buy something else just so I can try some Lapua brass.

I weighed a bunch of cases and Federal is the most consistant. I use Federal for serious hunting loads and anything else for practice and plinking.

Well when I buy, which is seldom cause I have just about all I need. It is Winchester for the most part. Starline for 32 mag, Jamision for the 500 mag. Only use Federal premium for the ole 270 & 300 win mag. the rest is unimportant. [Smile]

Lapua makes beautiful brass. It's all I use for 6mm and smaller calibers. I just bought a large lot of Winchester brass for my 300WinMag and I'm not very pleased with the quality. Far too many cases had neck run-out of .003" or more, and too many primers went into primer pockets way too easy. I've not had that trouble with Remington cases.

I like Norma in the calibers I shoot. Easier and faster to prep, more uniform. I'd like to try some Lapua but don't shoot the calibers they make. Any difference between Norma and Lapua?

You took the words right out of my mouth. My old man just sold his 30/06 and I just necked down all his old brass to 25. Good for plinking and such.

I use federal brass mostly because of all the fed factory ammo that I bought over the years and have saved. I have quite a bit of win to. I don't see any dif.

My experience follows Trathner. I don't shoot anything that Lapua makes brass for. My favorites in 1,2,3 order are:

#1. Norma
#2. Federal
#3. WW

Criteria for choices are consistancy in weights, runout and ease of use in reloading.

As a footnote, I purchased 200 rounds of WW brass for .300 WSM just when the brass first came on market. It was incredibly consistant in weight, best I have ever weighed.

And oh, Chevrolet.

Have to go along with the Alaska Bushman. But, will say that both WW and Rem brass seem to have improved lately. Bought some for several different calibers, weighed after uniforming primer pockets and flasholes, and darned if I got any significant variances. [Wink]
