What is your favorite load? my old load of 40gr vmax and 26grs of ww760. 3 shot groups were about 1/2" now there more like 1 to 1 1/4"
I think i will try some H4831SC.It didnt shoot to good before but worth another try.
Thought about trying some H322 or H335 most of the books list these as the go to powders.

I don't think H4831SC is the best bet for a 222.
H322, H335, BL-C2, H4198, 748, Tac, X-Terminator, AA2015 all would be better choices.

The problem may be your bullet weight. Try 50, 52 or 55 grain bullets. Get Bergers if you can. Reloader 7 has always had a good reputation, but H322 and IMR 4198 are also good powders.

My old duce shoots IMR 4198 best, with 52 grain bullets, but my new one doesn't. RL-7 is a differnt story though. With 50 grain bullets, the new one shoots 3 shots into a 3/8" group at 100.
I'd say it's worth a try with these two powders, plus what works for the other guys.

You can't go wrong with BLC(2) in the triple duce. There were many records set using this powder with this cartridge.

My pet load is 25.5gr of BLC(2) with a Hornady 50gr V-Max and CCI 400 primers in Remington brass. It will do under 3/8" @100yds all day long. I shoot this load in an old Remington 722 that's had nothing done to it except a stock replacement.

I shoot the same load as DEC other then I'm only 25gr of powder. Its the best I found for my gun

Best 5 shot group (.206") in my early 40X single shot was with 24.3grs BLC2 under 52gr Berger match bullets.

50 grain Speer TNT's with either 21.5 grs. VV N130 or 21.0 grs. Norma 200.

Hard to tell one bullet hole from the next.

My favorite 222 Rem. load for a 1:12 twist barrel is a Speer 70 grain Semi-Spitzer over a compressed load of Win 760/H414. It does 0.5 to 0.75 100 yard 3 shot groups and I've taken a deer as well as varmints with the load.

Two classic loads for the deuce with a 50-52
grain bullet are 20.5 grains of IMR4198 or
24 grains of H4895. Both have won many, many
benchrest matches. And killed many prairie
dogs.

H4831 is way too slow for the 222. Don't just change bullets so that some powder or other works. The 222 performs best with bullets designed for it and not tougher ones that work best in the 22-250 and Swift.

For instance the old Hornady SX and Sierra Blitz were the best in the 222. The 40 gr bullets should be fine.

Here are some loads for the 40's.

40 gr 222 loads

21gr RL7, 50gr Sierra BK or 50gr Vmax. Averages .4" in my Steyr.

Did you break your barrel in properly ?. If so please inform the lot of us as to how you did that . There has been interesting information least wise to my self as to proper barrel break in .

alwatys break in the barrel.
clean Shoot 1 clean 10rounds.. shoot shoot 3 clean never let the barrel get hot if a ss barrel is not broke in abut 15 rounds take it back.

24.0 grains of Hodgen Benchmark under a 50 gr Sierra BK yields 3168 fps (avg) in my Cooper 21 and averages 1/4" groups for 5 shots @ 100 yds. My best group to date with this load was 0.092" for 5 shots @ 100 yds
