Chuck,
I haven't tried it but i've had no trouble with W231 in either cast or jacketed loads. It shoots very well in my Kimber.

Decent accuracy, but really dirty--leaves a gummy residue in the bore and chamber. I decided to stick to HP38 for target, and Power Pistol for high performance.

I have a couple of different .45ACP loads I like.

The Nosler 185 JHP with a CCI-300 primer on top of 9.2 grains of AA-5.

The Hornady 200 XTP with a CCI-300 primer on top of 7.4 grains of Unique.

The Speer 225 JHP with a CCI-300 primer on top of 7.2 grains of Unique.

The Speer 230 FMJ with a CCI-300 primer on top of 10.1 grains of Blue Dot.

I like Accurate #5 and SOLO 1000.

The Solo is one of the cleanest burning powders, I think you'll really like it. I don't know if it has been discontinued though.

#5 I like to use with my favorite working load, a 200 gr SWC at around 1000 fps.
