HogWildHV bullet from GS Custom Bullets
Curious if anyone has tried the HV bullet from GS Custom Bullets. I noticed they offer a 110g 26cal bullet and claim 3,300 fps in the 260 Rem. I like the look of the bullet and the BC and potential speed.
What I am skeptical about is their performance on game. Maybe I am not open minded but the idea of losing all the front petals and a "flat cylinder" doing more damage than a two caliber mushroom is, well,.....someone will have to convince me. I wish it were true. I'd love to deer hunt with a 100g monometal bullet out of my 260 AI. at 3,350-3,400 fps and know it would hold together (even on a close shot) and do a lot of internal damage. Why did they ever stop making the 100g Barnes in 26 caliber!!!!
Would love to hear your experiences...

DutchI have used a 62 gr .243 HV and a 130 gr. .284 HV on game (antelope and elk), and they worked as advertised. They are also much easier to work up loads for than the "X", and accuracy was better than I anticipated. 1 to 1.5 MOA with the first load I tried on both. Didn't bother to "beat that dead horse" deader than that.
Getting them has been a bit of a problem. There is a company in the U.S. that is finalizing it's import permits, which will allow us to buy them from a U.S. source. I'm anticipating eagerly. HTH, Dutch.

<JohanW>Hogwild,
The HV bullets are all that they claim to be. I use the 110 Gr in my .270 and thier performance is exelent. I have loaded to 3560 f/s and have used them on game from wharthog to oryx and kudu.
So far none of the animals have gone further than 30 yards from a lung shot and in all cases exept one, the bullets exited on the opposite side. The only bullet I ever recovered was from a frontal shot on a wharthog. The bullet went through the skull, severed most of the ribs on one side, broke the back leg and stopped under tha skin on the backside. The bullet mushroomed perfectly in the third and retained 91% weight. I personally think that the performance is far better than Barnes X.
Good luck

<HogWild_at_Work>JohanW,
What kind of internal damage did you notice on the lung shot animals? What was the distance of the shots on these animals and approximate impact speed? I ask this to determine if the velocity was sufficient to shear all the petals. Then I will know if the damage you report is from a mushroomed bullet or a "flat cylinder".
