I need to order some new 22-250 brass. I know that the premium brass is better, but in your guys' experience which is better, Remington or Winchester?

I've never found a difference except that I like the nickel plated stuff and that I get from Remington.

Winchester. It does not have the bumps, dents and square case mouths that Rem has. I have used both.

I am not sure that I could say that Remington or Winchester 22-250 brass is "best".

I use both, keeping it segregated according to which rifle I am using it in.

I will tell you that while neither one is best, they are DIFFERENT! Winchester 22-250 brass is heavier and therefore has less powder capacity. I have tested this a number of times and I always get higher velocities (presumably due to higher pressures) when using the same loads in Winchester cases.

This is not a unique situation. I shoot a 300 Wby Mag and get higher pressures when using Remington brass versus Weatherby brass.

In several cartridges I just cannot tell much difference in brands of cases, but in others it is clear. Just do not mix brands of cases and you will have no problems.

And ALL the usual sources of brass have problems some times.

I opened a new box of 100 Remington cases for my 7mm BR recently that had four pieces of brass that would not hold a primer in the pocket. They had primer pockets so large that primers just fell back out. The other 96 were just fine. Three years ago I bought a new bag of 50 Winchester cases for my .338 Win Mag. In the bag was a 7mm Remington Mag case. Not only was it in the wrong bag, but it had no flash hole! The primer pocket was there, but there is no hole punched through.

Just pick a brand and work up loads for it then stick with it. And yes, any or all brands may show up with clearly out of round case mouths, just run them through your sizing die before you use them.

I generally have used Remington for my own loads, but I recently had someone ask for Winchester.



After loading 300 Winchester cases I have decided that Remington is better.

Well when it comes to brass my choices go Lapua, Norma and Winchester in that order. So since Lapua doesn't make 22-250 my first choice would be Norma then Winchester.

I prefer Winchester brass as a second choice I will use Remington. I have tried several new Remington Nickel brass in 30-06, 7mm Rem Mag, and 300 Win Mag they all have been to tight to easily close the bolt even with full length resizing. For this reason I do not recommend the Nickel Remington brass. I have not tried factory Nickel ammo yet.
