Chewbakka8x57 Mauser load for Rem. 185 gr. Core-Lokt with Hodgdon H414
I need a load for my M48 Mauser in 8mm with a 185 Rem. Core-Lokt bullet with Hodgdon H414 powder. The Hodgdon website keeps disappearing the H414 powder selection whenever I select it along with the 180 gr. bullet. They have not answered my email either!

Fury01You can see 50 grains with a 200 bullet so start there and work up as desired. All those loads are on the soft/cold side for the 8/57.
I checked my reloading records and I show that up to 55.5 grains of H414 will fit in the case with that bullet in a long throat mauser but standard statements apply here. Your gun your load. I found Ramshot Big game loads, in the ball park of H414 but a bit faster in some applications. I used TAC myself for a good load with the 185 CL bullet.

AtkinsonI agree with Fury, and H414...Ive used it with 160, 180 and 200 gr. bullets in the 8x57..I also have a long throated 8x57 and shoot considerlby more powder than loading manuals, same for the 7x57..Keep in mind that "most all" reloading books show loads that are safe in the rem. single shots, Mauser 95s and 96s for instance..A good Mauser is as strong as a win 70 or Rem 700 and can be loaded as such..

ChewbakkaThe latest load I've worked up with the 8mm Mauser with the 185 gr. Remington Core-Lokt bullet and 53.0 gr. of Hodgdon H414. This is a slightly compressed load. The hottest load I've seen on line is a 200 gr. bullet with 54.0 gr. of H414. All my Mausers are Serbian M48's in good condition.

AtkinsonI don't like to quote loads, but I use exactly what Chewbaca posted in my 8x57s; 8x60, and add 10% to my 8mm/06 Ackeley....
