Reduced cast bullet loads...
I am having difficulty finding reduced cast bullet loads for the .405 Winchester, but I was thinking that with the case capcities of the .405 Winchester and .45-70 being very similar I might be able to utilize reduced load data from the .45-70 for my .405 Winchester. I know that it is a little out in left field, but can you forsee any major issues? I realize that there is the dange of perhaps double charging, but wouldn't a low power load in the .45-70 be safe for the very similar .405 Winchester?

Thanks,

Jesse

The two carts. have little in common, so I would say no. I don;t load for the 405 but using reduced loads isn't much of a problem in straight wall cases w/ several powders. How reduced? You can use the starting loads in the manuals/guides & reduce from there. IMR4198 & H4895 are pretty forgiving w/ reduce loads. If you want to shoot really light lead bullet loads, I used to shoot small charges of Unique w/ an over powder wad & 300gr lead bullets from my 45-70. They made about 900fps.

I was looking on the order of 1500 fps or so.

It’ important to note that SAFETY is our prime concern therefore we strongly recommend.

1. TO ALWAYS BEGIN LOADING AT THE RECOMMENDED MINIMUM “START†LOAD.

2. If at all possible, measure the velocity and correlate with our data.
