AustringerTrimming/Sizing Hornady Basic Belted Brass to .458 Lott
Hello,
This is pretty much a follow-up to one of my recent posts. I was unable to find .458 Lott brass and was made aware of the Hornady Belted Magnum Basic Brass.
Well, I received my brass and have a question. The brass is 2.86 (a little less according to my calipers) and needs to be trimmed to 2.8.
If I just run the brass into my resizing die (Hornady) I'm pretty sure it will bottom out, right?
To what size to I need to cut the brass so it will resize, but still leave me enough to trim to 2.8?
My concern is that if I trim to 2.8, then resize, I may end up with short brass.
Thanks!

RayGunterWhen I've sized a basic brass down I have done the first pass with the die set about 1/8 inch high. Then trim to length. Then full length size with the die set properly.
That worked best for me in taking a 500 Basic to 50-140

AustringerThat makes perfect sense, I'll try it! Why can't I ever think of those things?
I'm telling you, if everybody were like me we'd all still be huddled around in caves, naked, eating raw meat.
