RL-19_ Temp. Sensitive?
How temperature sensitive is RL-19? I am thinking of working up some loads with it in my 7mm-08 with heavier bullets like the 160 grain Partition. Thanks.

I doubt that any of todays modern powders are tempature sinsitive when loaded properly...Cordite was not....

Thats a problem that I have never seen raise its ugly head around me and I have hunted the arid So. west, Africa and Alaska...there is a difference I am sure but if you allow for that then you don't have to deal with it..50 or 100 FPS is of no consequence so cut back a grain off max.....

I have shoot RL-19 mostly in my 338 all over the world...It creates less pressure for the velocity than any other powder in the .338...

I shoot RL-19 in my .340 Wby at home in 95 degree weather, and shot the same load in Colorado and Alaska at 20 below with no problems. My two .340's like it better than all other powders, I also load it in a buddies .338. [Wink] Good shooting.

Anybody actually chronographed loads w/ RL-19 at different temperatures? For some applications, i.e. competition shooting 50-100fps variation *does* matter. I'm getting set up to load a 6.5-08 a.k.a. .260 Remington, and RL-19, RL-22, N-150, N-550, H-1000, and H4350 are some of the recommended powders. I know 4350 is one of Hodgdon's Extreme powders like Varget, but I'm not sure if it's slow enough.

Thanks,

Monte

I've been chronographing R-19 in my 338-06 AI for about 8 years and I see more variation between lots than temperatures.

The reason I'm thinking of trying RL-19 is that I used to use H414 with good results but got tired of people telling me how temperature sensitive this powder is. Right now I'm loading RL-15, H4350, and Varget. RL-19 does seem to help get the velocity up a bit. BTW, thanks for your replies.
