hta85gr. bullets in a 25-06
I have a model 70 custom 25-06. I started out with 100gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips on top of IMR 4831. The results were not impressive, so I tried RL22. I had much better results. My question is, now I would like to try 85gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips. Nosler does not show a listing using RL22. Do any of you have a favorite load, or is RL22 to slow for this lite a bullet

30378You should find a sweet spot between 54 and 55 grains of IMR-4350. Use the slower powders for heavier bullets.

vapodogI've owned three .25-06 since the early 70s and have used H-4831 on the 85s but no longer shoot the 85s.....
120s and 75s are what I like.....but the H-4831 is still a good powder for the 85 grainers in the .25-06....if you have to buy a new powder for this I'd suggest finding some of the new Winchester 780 supreme.....great stuff.....
And say hi to all the folks at Holz Rubber Co there in Lodi!

Red C.The Reloader's Nest (http://www.reloadersnest.com/index.asp) lists a 25-06 load as follows:
85 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip
58 grains of RL22
CCI primer
Winchester Brass
COL not listed
Velocity = 3425 fps
They also lists loads with H4350, H414, H4831, and N160

458LottfanMy .25-06 shoots great with the bullets you listed with the H4831SC. I droped a Whitetail doe in her tracks with an 85 grain BT at 170 yards. At the time it was the only ammo I had loaded for the rifle so I thought I would try it. May not be ideal for evry shot but it worked perfectly for that one.
