Any of ya'll tried out Reloader 17 yet?
Read some good things but no personal experience yet. Bought some and may try it out this next week on 6.5 x 284 and 270 WSM.

I've had excellent results with it in 30-06 and 375 Ruger. More velocity and yet to get to max load before saying to myself "that's fast enough!" Great accuracy, predictable performance.

Done some loading with rl-17 in a 300wsm with all bullet weights. It works in this rifle.
Also have done some testing in a 25-06 and 280rem.So far not much to report about.

Great fps and accuracy in my 22" 6.5x55 and 7mm-08 rifles.
I get slightly better accuracy with H4350 in my 6 x 47 Lapua but 150 fps better velocity with RL-17.

RL-17 took my .30-06 and 150gr BT bullets into .300 Win Mag velocities with excellent accuracy. This is truly an amazing powder in cartridges it was made for. I now use it exclusively in my 06’s with all weight bullets.

I've only tested it in one rifle, a Vanguard in 25-06. With bullets weighing 115 to 120 gns, it did not shoot well.
I read lots of good things about the powder, and good accuracy guys are getting with it, so I assume it's just my rifle.
I have two pounds of it, and will be doing more testing with it in 22-250, 257 Roberts and a couple of 7mm's.

DBM, I`ve heard good things about R17 with the 7-08. The 7-08 is the next one I`ll play with when I get a new lb of powder. I believe I`ve heard you say you`ve got one. That, IMO would a good place to start with R17.
I have played with it a little in the 6.5x284 with some mixed results so far. The velocities were very good, ~ 100 fps better then I`ve got with other powders at similar pressures. The accuracy I got though was not as good as hoped. This is very limited testing though.

I didn't buy any Reloader 17 yet. But I'd be interested in your 6.5x284 Norma results. Perhaps we could do some comparisons with others who use this cartridge?

I have used it in 6mm XC, 300 WSM and 375 H&H so far. It does indeed provide 100 to 200 more fps as advertised and can be accurate given proper load development. I like the powder but have experienced big velocity swings when shooting multiple rounds in high ambient temperatures (85+ degrees F). Using RL 17 in a 375 H&H, I was able get a 1" group at 2625 fps with no pressure signs with a 300 grain Barnes TSX. That surprised me because it is supposed to be a short case powder.

No pressure signs in either caliber. This is a pic of the primers on the 375 Ruger case with 86.5 gr powder pushing a 260 gr bullet at 3000 fps

and they held the next primers with the same primer seating force as the new cases.

RE17 kicks butt in the 338, 348, 375H&H. I bet it would come out the best in the 9.3x62 but haven't done that one yet. Also think it would be stellar in the 358 Norma. About any middle bore that is about right for 4350 powder speeds but there isn't quite enough room for 4350, IS the home for RE17

Onefunzr2,

I'm a big fan of the 130 gr. accubonds in anything 6.5

Loaded up some 6.5 x 284 with 130 gr a/b's tonite. Plan to get up early and go to the range before it gets too hot.

Loaded 47, 48, 49 49.5, 50, 50.5 and 51 gr. RL-17, 2.965"oal.

If I make it to the range I'll chrony my loads and post groups tomorrow or monday.

A big fan cause they work so well on game? Reason I ask is a bunch of long range shooters use 6.5mm. I'm not into that.

But them white tips sure are pretty! I have 38 of them left in inventory. Also, some 120gr Core-lokts and 140gr Hornady Interlocks. And 100 each of Barnes TSX 120 & 130gr.

Same test using H-4350.

It is great stuff in both my 260rem and 30/06.

If I remember, my load for the 30/06 is 55.8gr's Re17, 165gr SPBT, 3.25" OAL. Blaser shoots around .3-.4" at 100m.

Similar groups in the 260 with 120gr BT's.

I have my man, 2750FPS, with a 20.5" stubby barrel. It also seems to burn very clean with no great muzzle flash.

I've been testing RL17 in my 338-06 the last week and so far I've found a couple of loads that group incredibly but I haven't gotten the velocities I was expecting. Using 225gr Hornady SST's I'm only seeing velocities in the 2450-2500 fps range. I haven't seen any real pressure signs yet but according to Quickload I'm at the max. I was getting just over 150fps faster with RL15 (my favorite powder for a 338-06) than I'm getting with RL17. I've been told that the Quickload data for RL17 isn't very accurate so there may be room to push for more but I haven't had time to experiment further. The best load I've tried so far with RL17 was:

55 gr RL17, 225gr Hornady SST, 3.36 COL
Velocities (3 shots) - 2464, 2467, 2464 Average 2465

I'm going to bump up the charge a little when I have time to play around some more and will post my results when I do.

Backwoods, my favorite for that bullet is H4350 at about 61gr for 2685( only safe in my rifle. Since the burn rate is supposed to be close to 4350 you should be able to up your load a bit. Thanks

For my 338-06 I am using 60 gr. RL17 with the 250 Hornady RN. Groups MOA and velocity is about 2575. No pressure signs in my gun. It is my go to load for anything that doesn't need a 375.

Slightly different load, but same basic caliber and powder:

.30-06, 24" barrel, 150 grs TTSX, 59.0 grs RL17 (work up from below!), Fed 210M, Win brass - muzzle velocity just at 3000 fps.

I tried R-17 in both my 30-06(custom) and a factory 280 and H-4350 was a better powder in those rifles.

I'm having pretty good luck with R-17 in the 284,280AI,270WSM and I'm shooting alittle in a 300WSM.

phurley5--I am loading 60.5gr of RL17 with 130gr Accubonds for 3200fps in my 270WSM. I was loading 66gr of RL22 and getting just over 3100fps. In my 7mmWSM, I am loading 61gr of RL17 with 140gr Accubonds and 61.5gr of RL17 with 140gr TSX's and both avg 3160fps (I have run them up to 3250 but accuracy was at 3160-3170). In my 300WSM I am loading 65gr of RL17 with 180gr Sierra Pro Hunter bullets at 3080fps and I ran them up to 3150fps before running into pressure signs.
