35 Rem. & pistol bullets

Hi. Any ideas for accurate varmint loads in the 35 Rem. with 110 and 125 JHPs? I'm using a Rem. 600.

Hi Tanker, I have the same gun, but I only use 200gr loads. Never tried lighter. I would imagine you could wack them pretty good. Use any manual and start at the maximum with your gun. You will find it's max load. look for pressure signs. I don't usually recommend this but in this action the max 35 loads are pathetic. some of my loads are really pumped up in my Rem600.

Have only loaded down to 158 cast gas checks. 2.0 MOA with Max loads of RL7 from the Alliant web sight in my 336 Marlin.

I will go along with bigbull that 35 Rem book loads are very anemic in a modern bolt action and even in the 336, considering it has been made in .356 Win (SAAMI 52,000 CUP). I would guess that SAAMI 35 Rem pressures (35,000 CUP) are regulated to levels meant for the old Rem pumps and semi-autos. That said, I'm not advocating that you exceed the book loads.

Tanker, you may also want to try a faster powder such as the IMR or H 4227 or various 4198's. This should be cleaner and faster in the light bullet application. Or the Vita Vouhri 130, 133 speeds.

I whish you better luck with pistol bullets than I had.With my 9x41(.358) and most pistol bullets the results were only so-so. I probably was trying to drive them faster than they liked. I can E-Mail you a lot of data if you like.

158 gr XTP .357" are very accurate in a .358" groove 35 Wheelen, when pushed with 15 grains of pistol powder.

Tanker....In my .358 Winchester, I used Sierra 140 gr. jacketed hollowpoints, ahead of the max load of IMR 4895 listed for the 200 gr. bullets. Accuracy was better than with the shorter slugs. Starlings hit with this load, just go "poof." Feral cats hit solidly with this load, become, "rather disjointed!" A quick glance at the IMR loads listed here: http://www.imrpowder.com/data/rifle/35rem.php for the 35 Rem., seems like a max load for the 150 gr. bullet, ahould work for the 125s. Grant.
