What's been your experience with RWS brass? Is it as good as Lapua, etc.?

AIU, the only exp. I have is in my .338x74K. I prefer the RWS brass over the Norma. I get a lot of strtching in the Norma & very little in the RWS. I wish I could find it in more calibers.

Have used RWS in 9,3x74R ... prefer it to anything else I've ever used. Is heavier than other brass (220 gr/case). Way better than the older Norma brass (202 gr/case).

RWS brass has the reputation as being THE BEST. I am using it for .22 Hornet, 6.5x57mm, 7x64mm, 8x60mm, and .404 Jeffery. Seems to be great in all these cartridges. The RWS factory Hornet loads are supposed to be the very best ever, but cannot get them here in the USA to make a test. Oh well.

What about the relative "hardness" of RWS brass vs. other brass - harder, softer, the same?

Based only on the 9.3, it's a bit harder & thicker in the web than Norma.
Sierra, where are you getting .404J brass? I bought some off e-bay once, but would like to get a couple more boxes.

Sierra, PLEASE, where are you getting 404 brass? They discontinued it about 8 years ago, did they start producing it again?

RWS isn't good brass. It is the Best brass. Try Huntington's or Old Western Scrounger for 404J, or if you are in Germany drop in to your local Franconia Jagd..................DJ

Normally very good brass, although it tends to be on the heavy and dimensionally larger side. That means case internal capacity is sometimes a tad below what other manufacturers offer, and sometimes I've had problems with the brass fitting my shellholders. But I still use RWS brass when available (mostly pickups).

RWS 8x68S brass is the toughest, meanest, son-of-a-gun brass I have ever used. To trim and deburr it, you really have to go at it with a vengeance!

News update: it's been posted on some of the Martini forums that Old Western Scrounger is no more. The website content has certainly gone.

Dave has sold the obsolete ammo business to Navy Arms [who haven't got anything on their website yet]. He will continue with his Class III dealing and Rock Crusher loading press business in Dayton.

Looks like Natchez also has a good range of RWS brass. Though neither they nor Huntington's have .404J listed as yet.

JOHAN, why don't you look into exporting some of that great brass over here, we can't get it on the regular commercial market. Start a post & find out how many guys would be interested. I would take 100rouns.

I purchased my current supply of RWS .404 brass in 1996, sorry. Natchez Shooters Supply seems to be the only current RWS importer right now, and I just checked their website, no .404 brass. Cannot get anything out of Dynamite-Nobel.

that's exactly how two of us were feeding our rifles until recently. Having a friend traveling in Europe to bring back stocks of 9.3x64mm and 5.6x57mm RWS brass. What a pain!!

I guess I'll be the contrarian, I don't care for RWS brass. It's too thick, which means internal volume is less and it's harder to size. Also, the primer pockets of the RWS brass I've used were so tight I could barely get my primers seated. I'll take Norma, Lapua or the new Nosler brass over RWS.

Delta, just switch to RP promers for your RWS brass. They fit like perfectly.

Like poster "mho", I also have had problems with RWS brass not fitting into the shellholder. In my case it was 7x57,I swapped it for winchester brass, and no problem.
But in the future I intend to build a 9.3x68s Imp., so I look forward to ,and appreciate that tough natured 68s brass.

Much better than Thun, thicker and stronger than Norma, but not as rigid as Hirtenberger(waste!).

But even in 8x68S more than 10 loads are possible.

I have used RWS brass to reload hot loads of 30-06, and It lasted at minimun in these conditions, 3 loads more than Norma Brass.Appart from this, I use normally to reload 8X68 S, 7 mm RM, 6.5X57 and 6.5X57R, with excellent results even with the hottest loads. For my opinion it is the best brass I have never used.
