Premium 6.5 mm Bullets

30 Caliber Mag Fan

I was doing some research into premium, controlled expansion bullets for 6.5 mm. The following in not exhaustive by stretch of the imagination but, here's what I have found in the way of "household" names:

Swift - A Frame
Nosler - Partition
Barnes - X, XLC and Triple Shock
Hawk
Trophy Bonded Bear Claws

Question number 1 is: Am I missing anything?

Question number 2 is: Who of the smaller custom bullet makers make bullets in 6.5 mm/.264?

What are you loading for?I have been shooting an old 6.5x55 swede using 120 speers that work great.A buddy of mine has a 264 mag that the speers are a little distructive.140 gr partitions seem to be the best all around choice. My 260 likes both bullets and seem to preform well. You might look into Swift bullets.

Speer Grand Slam 140 gr. also

Hawks are not premium bullets either, they are just expen$ive standard bullets...

I belive Woodleigh makes 6.5mm....and possibly North Fork, or the African GS.....

You are missing the RUAG CDP bullet,
Solid rhino shank and GS bullets
I think Jensen makes a 6,5 too

Hello Johan,

I use a lot of different bullets in my Remington Classic in 6.5x55. I get my best accuracy from Lapua
Scenars in 108, 123 and 139grs. used in conjunction with VihtaVouri 550 and 560 powders. They seem
to be a cut above the others. Among the American made bullets the Nosler Balistic Tips in 100 and
120grs. are quite accurate, along with the Hornady 129 PSP. The Sierra 160SPSP was a pleasant surprise.
But, nothing can really touch the Lapuas in my rifle. Best wishes.

First of all, I want to thank everyone for their comments so far.

Bart 185 - I am loading for a 6.5 WSM thus, I am generating velocities approaching that of a .264 Win Mag. hence, the need for a "tougher" bullet.

Todbartell - I checked the Woodleigh web-site and North Fork and no luck with respect to .264's. In fact, about a year ago, I spoke with the gentleman with Northfork and when asked about .264's he indicated that the .277's were enough to drive him crazy and that he did not think that he would go smaller. Interesting avatar by the way.

Johan - I am afraid that I am not familiar with the RUAG CDP bullet; is it something that can be had in the states?

All - I failed to mention the Speer Grand Slam in my original post, my fault.

I called Jim Armfield's house yesterday and found out that he is very ill; he made some wonderful bullets and was a big fan of .264.

Well, I guess most of you who have been prowling this site for some time knows about my dedication towards blaser. The bullet also sold under the name B**** CDP. friends of mine have used this bullet in 6,5 and been very happy with it. You can buy RUAG CDP bullets in Europe, I'm not sure who it is in USA?

Cal Sibley, I have to agree with you, the lapua bullets are very good for accuracy, they are very popular in Sweden and less priced than sierra, and easier to obtain. Living in Sweden the natural choice of brass is Norma/ Lapua stoaked with Norma or VihtaVouri.

I would also add the 156 grain Norma Oryx, heck it is bonded. and I just read that Woodleigh just released a 140gr. PP but I have yet to be able to confirm that.

Woodleigh has just released a 140gr protected point bullet for the 6.5 this has been advertised in the latest shooting mags over here I think it has a velocity range of 1800-3000?
