DoublessHow heavy is too heavy for the 357 Max?
I just obtained a H&G #8 mould that drops two round nosed gas check bullets at exactly the same weight, down to .1 grain. Looking at the bullet, it was just itching to be shoved inside a 357 Maximum case. The resultant dummy round is as sexy as all getout, and seated to the crimp groove it just drops into the NEF chamber.
The question is, the projectile weighs 255 and change. Is that too heavy, and if not, who among you out there has played with that heavy a bullet in the Max? Which powders, and at what kind of charges?

DoublessI intend to find out no later than the first part of next week. I have no idea what the twist for the NEF is, but surely no faster than 1 in 16, which will be too slow, in all likelihood.
But I did find some load data: 20 grains of H110. I hve some PD 820 pulldown powder (I swear it is commercial W296) and some H110 as well. I intend to work up to that charge with both and just hope for the best. Will let you know...

craigsterTwist rate for the Handi in 357 is more than likely 18 3/4. Some of the earlier barrels were 15 1/2.

Lamari use the saeco #248 which is a 250 gr boolit.
it will stabilize in my dan wesson revolver.
i use aa-2230 powder.
i started with aa-1680 data.
since i have to seat to the front drive band for the revolver i went with the slower powder and worked up from there..

That will doom this project, if twist is that slow...
