GatehouseSwitching from 4831 to 4831SC
Is switchign from H4831 to the H4831 SC painless? I understand that they are SUPPOSED to be interchangable, but I don't want to run out and buy 8lbs of SC for my favorite loads without being sure...
thanks

ByronGatehouse,
I've used it in some of my .300 WM loads. I never used the regular H4831 but was told that H4831 SC was simply cut shorter to meter better. Here is what Hodgdon has to say:
"Q. What does the SC stand for in H4831SC and how is this powder different from H4831?
A. The SC stands for Short Cut. We offer two granule lengths of H4831, the old standby and the newer H4831SC. Both powders share our H4831 data but, if you have an existing load with one version and want to switch to the other, you should back down to the listed starting load for your bullet and work back up. The reason is really pretty simple. We ask that the reloader back down every time you change lot numbers of powder and changing versions of H4831 has the same effect"
