380acp with 800x
whats up everyone,
Yesterday the wifey and I went to the range to test some new powder. But during this adventure we shot some 380 reloads that we have had very good luck with. The problem is when we fired these loads, it was like the powder didn't all burn up!? So when we fired a shot we got showered in 800x! Now she says this has happened before, but I've never noticed it? Has anyone had this happen, and or know what I can do to fix this issue? Thanks

This is too slow of powder (800X)for the small case capacity of the 380. I had the same issue trying to shoot HS6 in the 38Spec; it is just too slow to get complete burn and I had unburned powder through the gun works. I load W231 in the 380ACP with very good results.

And if you are out of Winchester 231 you can use Bullseye powder.

I have a .45/.410 revolver that did the same thing with .45 Colts. Different reason than you, the huge cases with a small powder charge allowed it to all lie on the bottom of the case. The initial ignition launched a bunch of unburnt powder with every shot. Loads were all over the place and the powder was all over the inside of the gun. Fixed that problem by usung dacron as an over powder wad to keep it all near the flash hole.

Good luck!

800X is hands down the best powder I've ever tried in the 10mm. But you can't trust volume measures with it - You must weigh it!
