N320AWLoads for hot .44 special
I have been loading my Ruger Blackhawk (custom) in .44 special with Unique & 2400. I'm up to 15 grains of 2400 now with hard-cast 250 grain bullet.
Thinking about getting some H110 and give it a try. Anyone have suggestions for a good accurate load/powder in the 1000 FPS range.
Thanks

Alberta CanuckI don't know what the velocity was, but Elmer Keith used to swear by 17.5 grains of 2400 behind a 240 grain gas-checked cast HP bullet of his own design in his .44 Special(s). That was before the .44 Magnum came on the market, of course.
I used that Keith load for a number of years myself in my S&W M1950 Target with no problems. Killed more than a few deer with it in the early-mid 1960s. Am very sorry I sold that wheel gun in Alberta in about 1970. Was a sweet combo.

tnekkccThere are 44 mag loads and 44 sp loads with the same bullets and same powder: AA#9.
My brother is too wimpy for 44 mag, but to tough for 44sp, so I interpolate a load for him.

Hog KillerI have loaded 17.0gr/2400/250K hard cast for 1060fps from a 3" barrel 624. It should make 1200fps with a 6 1/2 - 7 1/2" barrel. H110 is a great powder for heavy MAG loads with very heavy bullets. But, for 44Sp/1000fps/250gr, it is not needed. IMHO. For about 875fps performance, 7.5gr/Unique/250gr, works very well for me, and this is what I usually shoot in my 44 Specials.
