JD MillerIs alliant 2400 a flake
Is alliant 2400 a flake powder like unique or a spherical / ball powder?

Cane RatIt is a very fine flake powder. Much finer flakes than Unique.

craigsterIt looks more like super short extruded.

Seems like that to me as well. It meters almost as well as a spherical.

Cane RatI believe the official designation is "Fine Granulation Propellant" according the Lyman manual but they look like tiny flakes to me.

craigsterI actually have Hercules 2400, possible there might be a physical difference between it and Alliant?

Could be, but I see what you're seeing, they do look like little discs of extruded powder, sort of like slices of bologna sliced off a whole bologna. Definitely not a ball powder but I could go either way on whether its extruded or a flake. I'm not sure now.

Hercules and Alliant are the same company, I dont recall what year it was, but it has been quite a few years ago now that Hercules changed its name to Alliant. If you look at the Alliant can you will still find the Hercules head logo. 2400 is my all time favorite .357mag powder, I have been using it for a long long time. So what you have is an old can of Alliant 2400. I didn't notice any difference when they changed the name, so if it was kept dry and still smells like fresh I would use it the same as Alliant 2400. I think they call it flake, but whatever type they call it, I still like it.

mstarlingI wish it burned cleaner ... even so, it has many good uses.
Is surprisingly good as a propellant for 300 Whisper.

yup 2400 is one dirty powder, sometimes looks like there is more unburnt than burnt. H110 works lots better & is close to the same burn rate

JD MillerThe new stuff supposed to be cleaner just like unique is
Just got some 2400 . Ya gotta use a magnifying glass to look at this stuff. Its as small as my h335.
Super fine stuff, Yep it'll meter good
