<leo>195 grain Barnes orginal 7mm bullets and 175 grain Nos. partition 7mm bullets.
How does the 195 grain 7mm Barnes compare with the max weight bullets in 7mm from nosler and woodleigh(both 175 grainers) for penetration? Theory would say it would penetrate farther but is this actual fact? Looking at the Barnes "originals" lineup of calibers, the 195 grain 7mm is the only max-weight bullet for caliber that is in spitzer form and with a whopping BC of .570! What are the optimum velocties for these Barnes bullets in holding together on heavy game? Are Woodleighs better? You would have to think the 195 grainers are longer bullets than the 175s from Nosler and Woodleigh but are they? Thanks, leo.

stubblejumperTheories are fine but bullet construction is more important than sheer weight where penetration is concerned.I would bet that the 160 gr failsafe would easily out penetrate the 195 gr barnes or the 175gr partition.Another thing to consider is that unless you have a very tight rate of twist you may not even be able to stabilize such a long bullet.

<leo>Yeah, I was just wondering if a 7mm mauser in a modern bolt-action and with 1 n 9 twist would stabalize that bullet. Apparently the '06 can stabalize the blount nosed 250 grain barnes.
