4)35.5gr IMR 4895
5)COL:2.350"
OR
1)R-P case
2)WLR primer
3)Nosler #39526
4)35.5gr IMR 4895
5)COL:2.350"
These are top loads in my Remington.
P.S. I kind of forgot the 'yote thing. I'm sure these loads will blow things apart.
[ 07-31-2003, 08:26: Message edited by: packrat ]I get 5/8" groups with 55g Remington HPPL, 36 grains of of Varget, Rem cases and Winchester primers. This bullet puts coyotes down fast, but blows BIG holes in the hides. I have tried the Hornady 52g HPBT match bullet with the same load and got 3/8" groups. When I use up my Remington bullets, I will switch to the Hornadys, and see how they work on coyotes.

Magnum MikeMy favorite load is NOT a barn burner but does shoot well outta me XP!

I chrono'd it a while back and it is running around 3300 fps outta the 14.75" barrel.
EDIT: damn typos
[ 07-31-2003, 09:02: Message edited by: MSSmagnum ]I don't shoot this often, but if VELOCITY is what you are after with excellent accuracy ( at least in my pair of 22/250s);
34.5 grains of RL 7, ( I prefer Winchester brass)
Large Rifle primer, 40 grain bullet ( Nosler BT, Sierra Blitzking or HP, Hornady V Max)
24 inch barrel: 4450 fps.
5.5 inches high at 100 yds, dead on at 500 ( at least out of the reload manual) The range targets at 500 verify this pretty well.

StonecreekThere are approximately 11-jillion loads which work well in the .22-250 at last count. Considering that, it is remarkable how often the old standby of 35.5 grains of 4895 with a 55 grain bullet comes up. To make it even more remarkable, this identical load has been independently worked up by numerous shooters in numerous guns through the years. I just stumbled on it about 25 years ago without consulting anyone and now, in the age of the internet, I find that I am only one of dozens to have "invented the wheel".
BTW: I find little difference in any of the 4895's; this load works with any of them.

R FlowersListen to Stonecreek, he has listed the most used 22-250 load in recent history since folks quit using IMR 4320 so much.
I personally have had a little better luck with H 4895 than the IMR version, but they both WORK!

onefunzr235.5 grains of 4064 with a 55 grain Sierra (this load screams!), or
33.8 grains of 4064 with a 52 BTHP Sierra.(milder)
They won't go as fast in your 22" barrel as in my 28" tube Browning 1885 but will get the job done none-the-less. Both were recommended to me by a very successful groundhog hunter more than 25 years ago.
