Have you considered reaming your chamber to 6mm-06?

Do you mean sizing die or forming die? As Van said, what would you form them from?? Wouldn't it be cheaper and better to simply buy a supply of WBY (Norma) brass?

Well, back when Ackley was putting belts on a variety of different rimless cases while he was cooking up some of his wildcats, there were belting dies being made up. I believe RCBS used to make them, on special order, of course.

I would contact both Redding and Huntington Die Specialties about your needs.........

As an old guy I well remember those days when shooters would resort to some pretty extreme things to keep their rifles shooting. But that was then and this is now. At the risk of repeating myself, wouldn't it be far easier to buy some 240 WBY brass?

Even being a belted case the 240 Wby does not have the same dia of the other belted magnum cases. Its dia. is the same as a 30-06,so with this in mind a brass is expensive and hard to find,i would rebarrel it to an 6mm-284. Thhis is really a hot little cartridge. vvan

240 WBY brass is priced the same as any of the other WBY brass (except for the BIG ones) and is readily available from several sources.

240 brass retails for $ 140/ 100 here, 30/06 brass reformed in a 240 Fls die, trimmed and neck turned works really well but is a fraction tight.

Apparantly being interesting comes at a price

Mike A,
I like the way you think! Wink
If simply taking a tenth (0.0001") or three off the top of the SHELLHOLDER used to form your cases didn't solve your tightness problems, then likely it is a diameter related problem, and not one of headspace, per se.
I'd suggest you contact Mike Sirois of OTT

He does pretty nifty work with EDM. I wanna say a set of one-off custom dies runs around a hundred US. A single custom forming die should be considerably less. From what I understand about his proprietary process, he can work wonders, and do dang near anything. And, I've never heard a single complaint - not one!
I think it would be worth your while to contact him. Good luck!

It's the little things that matter.

I definitely prefer the 6mm/284. It will do everything the .240 Weatherby will do, and with better acuracy to boot!

Bug, thanks that is what I am after.
The reformed 06 brass is a bit wide around the head and belt.
To all the guys who suggested rechambering, I think I made it pretty clear that I was just after an alternative source of brass, The rifle is a ripper and there is no way I will change it.
