highck.25/08?
This might be a question only a newbie would ask, but is there a .25 caliber cartridge based on the .308 Win. case? Just thought that it might make a cool little cartridge.

Allan DeGrootNot other than a wildcat.
But there is the 260Rem cartridge which is a .264, 6.5mm
instead of a .257, 6.35mm bore.
With the little 100gr Nosler partition the 260Rem is actually a hot little number that equals the 25-06.

ricciardelliThere are a couple of different ways to look at this...
The .30-06 is basically a lengthened 7x57.
The .308 is basically a shortened .30-06.
The .257 Roberts falls between the .30-06 and the .308.
So...can you see what I am getting at?

44magLeoI have always liked the 250 Savage. It fits in short actions, shoots very well. Even using heavy bullets it only gives up about 150-200 fps from the 25-06. And uses only half the powder. Very efficent cartridge.
Some think the 257 Roderts a better cartridge, I don't, in a short action bullets get seated to deeply for optimal loading. In a long action so you can load with bullets out farther, just get a 25-06.
I think the 25-08 will be very close, less than 100 fps less than a 25-06. Using less powder, having less recoil in a shorter, lighter rifle.
Savage actions are easy to rebarrel. They shoot very well. I thought I would find a Savage or Stevens in a short action and build one.
