Is IMR 4451 a good substitute for H-4350?

Best I've found so far.

I tried it in 338 WM and it seemed to run a little slower than both H4350 and IMR 4350. (See Hodgdon Reloading Center for data with these powders)

Rick Jensen tested velocity and temp sensitivity in the 284 Win and H4350 proved a bit more stable.

PrecisionRifleBlog came up with similar results

Here's a good Burn rate chart (not that burn rate tells the whole story).

I've had some "interesting" results with IMR 4955 which is also an Enduron powder, that showed pressure sign well before maximum loads. So, as always, start low and work your way up.

This chart update even has the new IMR 8133 Enduron Powder.

Didn't it get a recall along with another powder about the same time..Higher pressure that the first article brought to light in one of the mags praising it!!! I think that's the one..If so then H414 is proven the best of all.

Ray, if you have a source for this, please share.

You might be confusing the Enduron powders with a specific batch of Ramshot Hunter

I will be working-up a load for a new 25-06 w/ IMR4451 over the next 2-days, so I hope it is good.

I like it, easy to use. You will want to run it at the upper end of the load range to keep it the cleanest. You will have no copper, but it is dirty.

So far, I have put 15-rounds of Varget and 15- of 4451 thru my Cooper, in that order. There was some telltale copper that came out of the bore afterwards. As for accuracy, I am fire forming 25-06AI, so the accuracy is not that great. Groups from both powders are around 1".

I will be taking it to the range next week to shoot both loads thru my chrony.
