1) 74604 PSI (!!!!) at predicted velocity 3534 fps

2)65434psi at 3046 fps

3)46036 psi (QL has trouble with straight-wall cartridges -I adjusted the case capacity upward until I got your velocity. At one time this was the recommended procedure for pressure estimation. I had to guesstimate the bullet dimesnions - it's not in my version of QL.)

4)58079 PSI

5)71603 PSI

I'd say you like to live dangerously. Can I take out some insurance on you with me as beneficiary?

Don,

Thanks!!

I know it is a lot of work, but could you run these three loads for me too, please.

308 Win

Case capacity - 56 grains

Bullet - 150 grain Remington Core lokt

Powder - 44 grains of IMR3031

Barrel length - 22"

What is the pressure and muzzle velocity?

500 AHR

Case capacity - 160.7 grains

Bullet - 600 grain Woodleigh (.56" base to cannelure, 1.43" overall length) seated to cannelure.

Powder 130.5 grains of IMR4350

Barrel length - 26"

Muzzle velocity - 2581 fps

What is the pressure.

500 AHR

Case capacity - 160.7 grains

Bullet - 600 grain Woodleigh (.56" base to cannelure, 1.43" overall length) seated to cannelure.

Powder 122 grains of IMR4350

Barrel length - 26"

Muzzle velocity - 2363 fps

What is the pressure.

Thanks a lot.

1) 52000 PSI (finally a reasonable pressure!) 2811 fps
2) 65500 PSI
3) 49800 PSI

Can I do your laundry now, sir?

Don,

I really appreciate the help! I think I can handle my laundry.

In case you are interested, of all the loads listed I have only experienced pressure signs with one of them. That was the 308 Win load with the 150gr core lokt and 44 grains of IMR3031. That particular load blew three primers in a row with case head expansion > 0.009"! I figured that particular load was 70,000+ psi.

Now the limiting factor with the 500 AHR and 130.5 gr of IMR4350 behind a 600gr Woodleigh was my shoulder. That load left my entire right shoulder/chest numb and my right hand tingling!!

Thanks again for the information, Don.

I had to assume the COL, as you didn't specify seating depth. I used 2.8".

I assume there's no chance that was a tight necked chamber or something?

I found that Federal Gold Medal brass was very soft.

It just goes to show that every rifle is a law unto itself.
