Go to

www.neihandtools.com

Click on "our catalog", and go to page 9. Look at #233, the 421-390GC design, and #237, the 424-350GC.

I have the 421-390, and in MY rifle it works fine. However, my C&H is one of the .404 rifles with a smaller groove diameter than all those with nominal .423" measurement. The NEI moulds cast VERY CLOSE to the stated "design" diameter...my 421-390 casts at exactly .421" in my wheelweight alloy. Also, the bullet is nominally 390 grains per the design, and mine cast at 398 grains in the same WW alloy.

Therefore, I'd expect the 424-350 to be a good fit in most .404 rifles, and the weight should be fine for most purposes.

NEI quality is superb, and even though each mould is made by special order only, mine was delivered at my home in Nevada EIGHT DAYS after I phoned in the order!

If you decide to cast your own, NEI warrants a close look. Hornady .44 gaschecks work fine on my 421-390s.

If you want to make light plinkers, you can also size down heavy 44mag bullets to .424. I don't like the clean up from shooting lead so I size down 300gr jacketed 44mags to .423 for plinkers. Run @ 2200fps, they are soft shooting @ quite accurate.

Yes, I had Lee make a sizing die in .423 for jacketed & .424 for lead. You can size in one step but it's stresses my bench! So I bought a .427 die to start w/. I use Imperial wax on the jacketed bullets & just size the lubed lead bullet.
