When you finally find a great load for a particular rifle?

I have a 5R and has been a bit of a pain. But the other night I loaded up some 175 SMKs with RL15 and boom. Found a load that gave me five shots into half an inch.

At the end of my session, did a three shot group at .65, but I was definitely tired.

Can't wait to go back and test that load again to make sure it wasn't a fluke.

Nice feeling, isn't it?

Heck Yeah!

clap

Even better is when the first load shot exceeds expectations. Declaring "Done" with load dev after just one range trip is fun too!

Dwight Scott built a 416 Rigby Improved rifle for me, on a Dakota 76 action.

The rifle arrived, and I wanted to develop a load for it to take on safari.

I have used a load - I think it was 105 grains of H4350 with a Trophy Bonded Bear Claw 400 grain bullet - in a 416 Weatherby rifle.

I loaded three rounds with this load, and fire them at 100 yards. The scope was at 5x.

I looked through the spotting scope, and saw all three shots clustered into one large hole!

I took the same 3 empties, sized them and reprimed them, loaded them with the same charge, and seated 3 Barnes Super Solids.

I fired these at the same target.

All six shots, with two different bullets, went into a group fo about 0.7"!

I stopped right there.

That is the only load that rifle has ever had.

Duckear,
5R in 308? If it is, 44.8 gr of RL15 behind a Hornady 168 gr Amax is also a very accurate load in my 5R

It is.
The 168s don't shoot all that well in it. The 11.25" twist is supposedly designed for the 175 from what I have read. I was getting about 1.3" with R15 and the 168s and 43 gr of powder. May try to bump it up a bit and try again.

Yep, I tried Reloader 15 in my 375 H&H using the 300 grain Barnes Banded solids. At 70 grains I said "A-Ha!" with this three shot group:
