High velocity factory ammo
Has anyone got any idea what they are loading, I am particularly interested in the .270 loads shooting 130's at about 3250, up about 150-180 fps on standard factory loads.

I think they have purposely down loaded the 270win because if they didn't the 270WSM would look real bad. Throttle the 270 win to the max and you should be getting within 100fps or so of the WSM. If you want in excess of 3200fps from the 270 win, I would try some RL 19 and some 130TSX's

in times when one needs a rifle, he tends to need it very badly.....PHC

Do you have any experience of this or is that guesswork?

3250 is quite otimistic. Up to 3100 is very possible with H 4831, I've never found an animal that cared if it was hit with a bullet going 150 faster or slower.

3250 is not optimistic at all, that is what it chronos.
It might not matter to some poor critter, but it is the velocity that I would like to achieve. My reloads get about 3200 fps with 130's using h 4350, but cases dont last much past 5 loads, if I load to get 3250 , which isnt hard at all, they last 2 loads.

Have fun when you stick a bolt.

Which tells you that you are producing pressure in excess of the design pressure for the cartridge.

sssshhhhh....quiet now.....don't tell anyone....ok?

Use a powder like RL25 or other slower than normal for the .270 and load half the load and compress the load and then load the rest of the load and again compress that. Seat the bullet.

Like any load you must work up but there's nothing wrong with compressing the powder. You can actually make a bit of velocity gains and not raise pressures. But you must go to a slower powder to increase the time of the burn.

Interesting concept vapodog. Have you done any empirical studies to validate this process? I'd be interested in seeing this data!

Stubblejumper, that is why I am asking the question.
