6.5 x 284 barrel length-velocity
Hello;
Utilizing the Quik=load computer program, could somebody help me out with a problem? Noting that Savage has come out with a 6.5 x 284 rifle in 30 inch barrel length meant for F Class shooting got me to thinking.

I am experienced with this caliber at long range both in benchrest and hunting. What valocity gains with a 140 grain bullet can be gained by the longer barrel versus, say a 26 inch? I have contacted Pac-Nor and they tell me they can make a 3 groove barrel up to 33 inches long, in this caliber.

I believe that with the right powders in this case you could get velocities that would make this extra barrel length pay dividends. I would like to have this confirmed by the usage of the Quik-Load program. I would be using this rifle for long range prone usage with a bipod for field use. I am just south of Whittington NRA range and the winds realy blow here, compared to Seattle, where I lived before retirement.

Thank you in advance for any help you may care to give me in this matter.

Well in the for what's worth department.

Loadtech calls the gain from 26-30 around 70fps the gain from 30 to 33 was 40fps.

As usual just my $.02
