MikeDBullet Seating Depth Miscues
When setting up your seating die and first seating a bullet, if the bullet is not at the desired depth, can the die simply be adusted down and the bullet be seated deeper in the case or is the additional manipulation of the case and bullet detrimental to accuracy or increased pressures? Any comments would be appreciated.

<green 788>Fear not, you can bring the ram down on the bullet as often as needed to get to the seating depth you're looking for.
If you seat too deep, however, that's another matter. In this instance, you can pull the bullet part way and start over, but then you may well be getting into reduced neck tension, which will affect accuracy.

SheisterYou just have to be careful not to screw it down so far you engage the crimping die inside without knowing it.
Don't ask me how I know this-

<J Snyman>There is a simple solution to your problem :
Make a dummy round for every cartridge/bullet combination that you develop. Empty case, no primer and bullet seated to correct depth.
Before you start reloading, place the appropropriate dummy in the shell holder, turn out the bullet seater, raise the ram, lower the bullet seater until it touches the bullet and lock the rings. No problem!
