Barnes XLC Projectiles
I have just purchased some Barnes XLC in .30 calibre (180gn XBT) to try through my .308 Norma Magnum and 7mm (140gn XBT) to try though my 7x57.

I really like the concept of the XLCs and intend to try them in my .416 Rigby as well. However, they are quite expensive projectiles (at least here in Oz they are!) so I thought that I would ask the members for any comments about the XLCs and whether they measure up to the claims made about them, whether there are other advantages that members have found and if there are any disadvantages?

I would appreciate all points of view on this subject.

Good shooting to all of you!

I have had great success with Barnes X bullets. They are not match bullets but give me huntable groups in most of my rifles (Less than 2" at 100 yards, where I hunt 150 yards is a long shot)Many people like the performance on game but complain about the accuracy. Another thing I have been told to watch for pressure problems using these projectiles, I have not experienced any problems to date. I think they are well work the cost if you gun likes them.

I like the XLC's and will shoot them if my rifle likes them. I have a 7mm STW that likes the 160 gr. to the exclusion of all other bullets, I have taken several deer with it, all one shot kills. My .340 Wby also likes the 225 gr. XLC and at 3150 fps is a real Elk combo. I get complete penetration out to 250 yards. You will get a little ruboff of the blue coating when you seat, this does not amount to any changes in performance that I can see. Good luck and good shooting. [Wink]
