.338 Win Mag and 225 gr. Northforks
Looking for a good load for the .338 Win Mag and the 225 gr. Northfork SS. Thanks <img src="http://forums.accuratereloading.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif" alt="Cool" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin::cool:-->RL PowderIMR PowderHodgdon PowderVV Powder

These loads came from Hornady Vol II they are on the warm side. Start low and work up. They are for 225 gr. bullets.

IMR4350 62.0 to 72.0 gr.
H4831 64.0 to 74.0 gr.

Approximate velocity is 2900 fps in a 25" barrel.

73grs. RE19 should do the trick along with WLR primers. Well, at least thats what worked the best with 225 Interbonds in a buddies Nikko, super accurate load. Jay

I'm currently using 70.2 gr. of RL-22 in my .338 WM. (though I'm using the Hornady SST's). The NF's are a bit different in design.

I think most people use RL-19 for 225 grain bullets. I just opted for RL-22 so I can use the same powder for 225 and 250 grain bullets.

Best of luck in your loading.

For me, it's 72.2 grs. of Rl-22 behind a 225 gr. NF. for 2800 fps. Better accuracy with the NF than I ever got with a Patiotion. If I were to go after brown bears, I'd opt for the 240 gr. NF.
Just what I do. Bear in Fairbanks

Unless you're the lead dog, the scenery never changes.

I never thought that I'd live to see a President worse than Jimmy Carter. Well, I have.

Gun control means using two hands.

I use H-4831 with the 225 grain Nosler Partition. How that bullet compares with the Northfork in terms of pressure/velocity I can't say. My previous .338 did well with 74 grains of H-4831 for just over 2900 fps, while my current gun will digest 75 grains which yields 2950 fps. These loads sound a little warm compared to most data, but have been within reasonable pressure parameters in my guns.

As always, with another gun and another bullet, you would need to drop back judiciously from these loads and work up according to indications.
