Shell holders
What do reloading gear companies think of their clientele? As I occasionally think about a 8x68S, and my father has a 6.5x68, which is like death ray on Chamois, I have collected any case from him I had a chance to do so.

Now the companies tell us there are special shell holders for those, these might not fit, special order, special price.

IMHO these shells fit just fine in shell holders for .44 Spec/ Mag. And these are quite common.

Any opinions?

Good shooting! H

Sometimes, there are some small differences between shell holders from different manufacturers.

We have a number from Redding, Lyman, Foster and of course RCBS.

If we get someone bring a non standard caliber here for work, and we have to load some ammo for it, generally it is not too difficult to find one that will fit it.

And surprising thing is, if we take your example of the 44 shell holder being used for the 6.5x68 case. We might find that a Redding holder will work, while a Lyman might not.

I had an interesting experience with shellholders recently. I had two cratered primers on some .300 Win Mag cases; they would not slide into a Redding shellholder, but would slide into a RCBS or Lee. It seems that Redding machines the bottom of their shellholder flat, while the others machine a lower stepped portion for the primer area. A slight design difference that I would have never paid attention to without the cratered primer. Odessa
