Is anyone aware of a portable reloading press that can be used at the range or easily moved around that accepts standard 7/8-14 threaded dies? I'm aware of the one Sharp Shooter Supply makes. The Hood press is really nice but really expensive (around $330).

Huntington makes one. Lyman did and may still, and
Lee has made one. A quick check of their respective web pages should turn up one that fits your need.

Harrells makes a super press for range loading. They make 3 sizes now I believe. A ppc, a.308, and now I think a magnum. If I remember they were about 170 bucks when I bought mine. The phone number that I have in my cell phone is 540-380-2683, call them directly and they will more than likely send you what you tell you to send the payment if satisfied with it. A couple of real great old timers that are even fun to talk to. Bob

I have a Lee hand press. It was given to me by an older guy that bought it to do loads at the range. He never used it.

I have re-sized 1000's of cases and seated 1000's of bullets with it while watching TV. It works well for what it is. I prefer using my benchmounted presses when I need to do volume, but hey, it's warmer in the house!

You should be able to pick-up one for about $25 or less.

Thanks guys. For some reason, I was under the impression that the Harrel's press was for hand dies only, but it is not. I think I will order one.

Kory, Harrells does make a press for hand dies, but they also make a press for screw ins and they are a fine press. MOST OF THE br shooters that use this type of press use them. You wouldn't be sorry getting one. Bob

My Lee hand press is next to my feet as I type this.

I use it at the range, and for prepping 45 acp cases (in front of the tv) prior to charging.

I think it was something like $19.95.

I feel like I got my money's worth.

It depends on what you want to do. I have a Harrels, and I use it for resizing ppc and 6 br (small) cases for my bench guns. The harrels is a bit cramped for seating bullets although it is possible. I seat bullets with a harrels arbor press. In general, the press I like and use at the range when not loading for my bench guns is the little RCBS partner press c clamped to the bench. It is small and light and tall enough to easily seat bullets in most hunting rounds. (and less than $50.)

Thank Bob. I ordered the Magnum press and the even the Custom 90 powder measure. Now I can fully load & shoot at the range. Spent about half an hour chatting with Lynwood. As it turns out, we have friends in common out here where I live!

You will love both the press and the measure. Just dial in your clicks on the measure and you're there. The one thing that will help a Harrell's measure perform even better is to clamp it to something stable.

Kory, I think you made a wise decision, the press and the powder measure are both top quality and very accurate. I have made up a chart for 6 or 7 different powders that I use in the ctgs. that I load and just refer to it when wanting to vary the load a bit. Just refer to the chart and crank in the number that you find on the chart that corresponds to the load that you want. Takes a bit of time to make up but saves a lot more later, and allows adjustments at the renge without breaking out a scale. Bob

About any press will do that if you have a bif C clamp...thats what many folks do. I have an old C press that works well enough to reload ammo.

I must be as old as Ray or close to it. I'm thinkin', "How 'bout put a press on a board and C clamp it to the shooting bench?".
I use two presses when I set up to develop. I have both on the same board, use two C clamps and never have a bit of problem.

There is nothing wrong with the method you suggest, but why not ask and see if there is a better solution? The Harrel's and SSS press have a built in clamp which attaches itself directly to you loading/shooting bench. One less thing to worry about or to carry around, etc/

Midway sells a portable reloading stand, which works quite nicely. You can mount any press to it.

I have the RCBS Partner press. It's small and $55.00 from Midsouth.

Nothing wrong with the Partner press. In fact there are several very accomplished BR shooters out there using the little Partner. The Partner will do everything the Harrels will do, is lighter, (though a little bulkier), and will do it for $100. less.
