Believe it or not I was able to order a 5 pound jug of this hard to get powder through Cabela on line. Any experience with this powder with large bore rifles

RMillerI have used it in 500 S&W, 45-70, 30-06, 41 mag, 44 mag and 45 Colt. It's a fun powder.

Ray BDue to it's light density, I've been interested in how well it works for reduced velocity loads in centerfire rifles. Previously the best powder for light loads has been SR4759, but it would be nice to get the same results with a powder that had a higher load density in the case.

JiriI would like to try in 500 S&W. Could make some nice subsonic loads.

RCHOUSERI have used it in 45-70, 375 H&H, and a 300 Rum. I also love it in my .454. In all my cases, I have been shooting Cast Lead boolits. They (Hodgdon/IMR) also put out load sheets for jacketed bullets in most all the rifle calibers.
Some folks like it, some folks hate it, but, you can pretty much load any cased cartridge with it (no muzzle loaders).
My advice? If you can get it, buy it. If you hate it sell it to another friend who shoots cast boolits.
thanks rch

Pa.FrankI've been using it in my 45LC for Cowboy for about 4 years. Remarkably consistent.
I tried it in my 41 Mag, (6" M57) and the same deal. remarkably consistent and surprisingly accurate. I was able to hit an 8" gong consistently at 80 yards. and when the sun is to your back, you can very often see the bullet in flight which is pretty cool.
I always bring that gun and load out whenever I bring a newbie to the range..
And as others have said, the nice thing about it is, you just cannot get too much of it in the case.. o not a snowballs change of ever double charging..
Definitely a fun powder to have on hand..

Mark ClarkI use Trail Boss in a 450 Watts with 405 grain cast. Makes it fun to shoot.
There are instructions on the Hodgedon website how to determine a load. Do not compress is their biggest warning.

buffybrI use it in my .300 Weatherby with cast bullets. It makes a great 100 yard practice round.

impala#03I used it in my 450/400 3" NE with 400 cast bullets. About 1600fps. Very accurate.

DoublessLoaded several boxes of 308 using TB for a friend. He has a hog problem, and I was loading 208-grain V-Max ahead of a charge of TB I have long since forgotten. The application was an FN Patrol Bolt rifle, if memory serves, and the recipe is easily "googled" if one is curious. What Louis was specifically after was something sub-sonic, and we achieved that.
The only issue I have with TB is that it is expensive.

LabmanI use it in my 416 Rigby. Makes a great reduced load. No fillers needed. Just primer, powder and a bullet.

enfieldsparesA friend uses TB on his commercial 30 yards indoor range to load cast lead bullets in .303 British.7.62mm Russian, 7.5mm Swiss and a couple of other calibres.
He just follows the formula on the maker's website and then fine tunes it down by a half grain or so to bring the velocity below 1,450fps which is the maximum velocity his range was certified for.

gnoahhhFor powder puff loads in the cartridges I shoot (.22Hornet to .30-06), I dislike Trail Boss. I can get the same velocities with way smaller charges of Bullseye, Red Dot, Unique, etc. In my opinion, Trail Boss gives a piss-poor bang for the buck.
Load density? Meh. 50 years + tens of thousands of shots with minuscule powder charges has never seen a multiple charged case. I double check each and every case before seating a bullet- simple basic handloading 101 safety precaution. Nor do I utilize fillers- they are an excellent path to ringing chambers IMO.
