scot7mm Ultra??
Saw an add on a TV hunting show. They had a new 7mm factory cartridge, super fast, no belt, anyone have any info on it. Seems like it might be the 300 short necked down??

<Bill>There are now two 7mm Ultra Cartridges, the 7mm Ultra Short mag and the & mm Ultra mag.
The big one is just the 300 ultra necked down, I guess you are suppose to beaat STW velocities by 100 fps or so. The Ultra SA in made for a short action, there has been alot of press on it lately.

<30 cal>I like the new 7 ultra. Probably because I like big cases with small little bullets. I have an stw but I wont be surprised if an ultra ends up in the cabinet sooner or later. The ultra is the .300 necked to 7mm and has a little bit more capacity than the stw. Both the ultra and the stw are pretty overbore so barrel life is not very long. My ruger #1 7mm stw wears a 26 inch tube but since its a single shot its the same length as a 22 inch barreled bolt gun. Means I can throw a 30 inch barrel on it and have the same length as a rem 700 in 7 ultra. Velocities from a 30 inch stw will be higher than the 26 inch barreled 7 ultra. Wonderful isn't it. Get a #1 with a 30 inch tube in 7 ultra and you will have a superfast 7mm and not to mention a hell of a long range rifle. It will have the same energy figures as a large magnum .30 and it will have a flatter trajectory. And it wont be too big to tote around in the field. I can hear it calling to me now!! The pronghorn are already getting nervous!!
