I am just starting to reload for the .30-06 and want to see what I should do.

I am working on a cheap, low recoil load for fun shooting. I am using 150 gr. remington corlokt on top of 46 gr. of h4895. My problem is that if I keep the COL length the same as what is in the manual I cant use the crimp groove. I figure it is safe to go ahead and push the bullet in to the groove since I am using a low pressure load but I just want to make sure.

any ideas?

It makes perfect sense to me to use the crimp groove. I believe you will lower pressures, because your bullet will be "jumping" to reach the lands. Bullet movement before striking the lands lowers pressure, if I understand things correctly.

Most smaller bore, like 30 caliber, bullets don't even have a cannelure. I have found that experimenting with seating depth is one of the most important factors in finding an accurate load, and crimping in the groove usually means a seating depth that does not produce the best accuracy for me. Disregard the groove. I have only concerned myself with crimping really heavy recoiling rounds like my .458, or .44 mag revolver. My $.02.
