bobmuelle.470 NE brass
Im sure this topic has been beaten to death but im new here so humor me.
I am initiating assembly of components to load .470 ammo for my VC.
My concern is picking the correct brass to start with.
I am aware of large differences in case weight and likely volume between the brands. My biggest concern however, is case durability and ease of reloading.
I have read of case head separation issues with Norma brass.
Would appreciate some plain talk of your experience with various case brands .
Thanks

crbutlerTo the best of my knowledge all have their quirks that get through QC.
I have mostly Federal, but also some Norma and some Hornady.
The Federal is nickel plated so some don't like that, but for me it has been very consistent, yes you can see some wear marks on the brass from the dies though. After a few loading the neck tension gets a little variable.
I think the Norma has been the best for me, no real issues... but I have been told that Federal brass is just Federal head stamped Norma.
Hornady I have a few cases of, they have fewer firings than the others, and while I have no problems with what I have, I would wait on claiming it's as good as the others until I have similar numbers of reloadings in it.
My rifle seems to not care what brand of brass I use for performance. All the various brands have similar accuracy and velocity for me with my (identical) loads, so in this case, I am OK with mix and match, but that may be it is just my rifle.

BaxterBI do believe as well that Federal is Norma brass. There is actually a picture in the latest reloading manual showing many of the OEM brass they make for others. This list is interesting- and long.

K EvansI prefer Hornady brass for mine, I'm one of those that doesn't like nickel plated brass for rifles.
