CullbuckRL 17 in the .257 Rob.
I am going to try some RL17 in my sons .257 and am looking for some load suggestions as my old manuals do not list this powder.
The rifle is a Rem. 700 and I will be loading 110 gr. Nosler Accubonds.
Any info regarding a starting load, a max. load, and loads that have worked well for you fellas will be greatly appreciated.

HTDUCKI'm working with 257 Rem model 722 using RL17.
Use the data your manuals list for H4350 and you'll be ok.

CullbuckThanks HTDUCK,
Hows the RL 17 working for you thus far?

HTDUCKSo far so good.
I just rescued this rifle from my buddies gunsafe where it had been sitting idle for about 25 years.Figured it would be a good gun for his 12 year old to shoot this fall.
Replaced the scope on it and scrounged up a set of dies.
I started sorta midrange in my 1978 Sierra manual and started working up loads for it.
So far have only tried to shoot groups with it on one occaission using a 100gr Gameking.
All three loads I tried were at the 1 inch range but I didn't chrony any of them.
I'll keep ya posted.

SnellstromI am anxious to hear about accuracy in the .257 Roberts from you guys using RL-17.
I just got some RL-17 that I planned on using in my '06 but if you guys have great accuracy with 100 grain bullets I may try it in my Bob. I already have a pinpoint accurate load with IMR-4350 and 117 Sierra's and 120 grain Hornady's.

Donald NelsonFor me IMR 4895 and Combined Technologies 115 grain silver tip has been the best combo in my .257AI. I have not tried R17 as I have never used it. I have only used R22 in that line of powders and have not had luck with it in anything I have used it in.

aliveinccI am having a Bob built as we speak so I have been doing alot of research.
Waters say for 100g pills, nothing beats one of the 4350s w/ H380 and H414 also being very good. AA now list info on RL 17 and claims that it's burn rate is similar to 4350. I would check their website first but believe HTDUCK is probably correct.

aliveinccAliant's website is woefully lacking regarding loads for the Bob, to say the least.

M 98One of the poster on AR GSSP has worked up some loads in his 257, you might want to pm him and get some of his loads, he is useing 100gn e tips his loads go from 40-43 gn with R17
i have had great success with R17 in my 06, getting a touch over 2900 with 180 gn noslers, @a pressure of 64,000
@2850 pressure is 60,000 psi
