.416 Rem. Mag
Have most of you that shoot the .416 Rem Mag been happier with a 350 grain bullet than a 400 grain bullet? I would like to shoot the new Barnes solids and TSXs or the Northforks. Can some of you respond with what you have been happy with?

For North America I have been very happy with the 350 grain Swift A-Frames over RL-15. For bigger stuff the 400 grain A-Frame or Partition are the berrries, again over RL-15.
I have been working with the North Fork 370 grain soft points lately. I believe that may be the all around bullet for this caliber. The issue wioth pure monometal bullets is that case capacity is limited. I would not go over 350 grains for any pure monometal bullet.

I really like the 370 grain North Forks. You can also get solids from North Fork for follow up shots on the big boys.

RL-15 is the only powder I use. If Accuracy wasn't up to snuff in your gun you could try Varget for the lighter bullets, and TAC for the heavier stuff.

I used all the bullets produced in the US when I was developing loads for my .416 Rem and Rigby. I settled on the North Fork 370 grainers because they were by far the most accurate in both my rifles. They then performed perfectly in Africa on the Buffalo. I have a recovered bullet that traversed my Buffalo from last rib to being embedded in the neck bone with a perfect mushroom and still retained 99.1% of it's weight. wave thumb Good luck and good shooting.

I bought a good supply of the now discontinued 350 Barnes X. They should work well on all but the very largest of the big 5. I also have 400 Barnes solid just in case.

I suppose a 400 grain bullet going 2400 fps is tradition for DG in the 416 bore, although Barnes recommends using one bullet weight lower than normal when using their bullets. So 350 grains when using Barnes is correct.

I´ve used Woodleighs 400gr Weldcores for hunting and Hornaday 400gr SP for load develop, plinking and practice. My .416 is a Rigby but that hardly effects bullet choice. My 9.3x62 likes Barnes bullets. I´ll have the opputunity to test Nothforks soon as a good friend has ent me som for Christmas.

I shoot the 370 gr North Fork in my 416 Rem with great satisfaction. I think you'll like them.
