HipshootBRASS QUESTION
My .243 Savage will soon need a new barrel.
I am thinking of getting one in 6MM BR Norma.
Question is Brunos Shooting Supply has two listings for brass
6mmBR and 6mmBRA.
What is the difference between BR and BRA?
Thanks!

BRA is basically an improved BR.....blown out shoulder straighter case walls. A really neat cartridge, but it takes specific dies.
Adds about 150fps..... If you go the BRA route do not buy alpha brass!!!

HipshootJTEX,
Thanks for the reply. A buddy says the Alpha 6BR brass is OK/good. Any reason you don't like the BRA brass.

Peter ConnanThe A is for Ackley. As in Ackley Improved.
BRA brass will not fit in a standard BR chamber.

Which means a BR will fit in a BRA.
And once fired it becomes a BRA!
That is how Ackley Improved work.

DavidReedHere's a good synopsis of the design & performance differences of the 6BR, 6BRA, & 6BRX cartridges.
6BR, 6BRA, 6BRX I'm interested in JTEX's experience with Alpha brass as I have run thousands of pieces of their brass and consider it to be the equivalent of Lapua in their field of offerings.

HipshootDavid,
That helps! Very familiar with AI cartridges as I currently load/make brass for 4 of them. Just didn't know/was not familiar with some of the Bench Rest cartridges.

AtkinsonI love the 6x45, simple procedure to fireform and brass last forever and is cheap to buy (223) and pretty well keeps up with the 243 for all practical purposes. I fireform with a near max load, and use those loads on varmints and deer size game. It has a bench rest chamber that requires outside neck reaming, and shoot .280 average with 3 and 288-290 for 5.. and using a layover of groups changes nothing..
Actually for what I use it for the bench rest "0" tolerance chamber is probably more trouble than its worth.
