Barnes Banded RN modification?
Ok this is prob not a pratical thing to do, but thought I'd ask.

Using a small lathe would if be reasonable to take a Barnes
.423 cal 400 gn RN bullet and put it in the lathe and cut off
some of the base to make it about a 325 gn bullet?

There is a reason for wanting to do this.
I would like a .423 325ish grain RN solid bullet.

I haven't used a lathe before so I didn't know if
I would be able to keep the bullets weight close.

It's a Mauser thing, you wouldn't understand.

I think it is reasonable. I know there was a gunsmith in Zimbabwe doing this with the 458 winchester. He was pulling 500gr Barnes solids and turning them down to 450gr.

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.
